Dance Hive

A workshop with Apryl Renée Pipe (Detroit)

Friday February 22 7-10pm
Saturday February 23 10am-1pm
@the tiny theater pdx 3306 S.E. 65th Ave., Portland, OR

How can the creative process of dance/performance be decentralized?   What if a dance is created by a swarm?

Dance Hive is a collective act of creating performance.  Participants will generate movement material through OpenSpace Technology:

  • Text (old books, magazine advertisements, newspaper articles, cookbooks etc)

  • Drama Techniques

  • Computer code and algorithms

  • Collaborative drawings

  • Ordinary objects and props

Participants are encouraged to add to this list and bring along items of interest.

Specific ideas can be generated from the participants themselves.  Groups form around these ideas and begin to generate small modular sections.  The participants can decide how the sections fit together to create non-linear work.  It could be a ritual.  An informal performance.  The sky’s the limit.

Come join the swarm!
